Longarm Quilting FAQ

We work in a beautiful, pet-free, smoke-free studio.

Why do I need a Longarm quilter?

• When there is a look or design that you want, but you’re unable to do it yourself.

• Your quilt is too large to quilt on your domestic machine.

• You’ve tried quilting your own quilt tops and it’s your least favorite part about making a quilt.

• Beauty! Longarm quilting adds a touch of elegance to any quilt.

• Time! You don’t have the time to finish your quilt top but know its just not a quilt unless it is finished.

What type of Long Arm Quilting do you offer?

• We offer EDGE TO EDGE quilting, this refers to a design that is quilted from one edge of your quilt to the other in a repeating pattern. When it comes to designs, the options are endless. If you don’t see a design you like we are happy to help you find one that is suited to your quilt.

What are other types of longarm quilting?

• SEMI-CUSTOM QUILTING: Semi-custom quilting is another style. This is a combination of edge-to-edge and custom work. Although not always as costly as custom it is still more than edge-to-edge.

• CUSTOM QUILTING: Custom quilting is another style of quilting. This means the quilter free hands the design on your quilt. It’s more artistic, time-consuming, and of course, personalized. We do not provide this service at this time.

Do I need to provide my own batting?

• We have batting available to purchase. Our most popular is the Hobbs 80/20 cotton, polyester blend. We also carry bamboo which is gaining in popularity because of its softness. Wool is also available upon request.

• You can bring your own batting. It must be at least 3 inches larger than the quilt top on each side, for example, a 60″ x 60″ quilt top needs the batting to be at least 66″ x 66″

Do you offer binding services

• Yes, we offer several levels of binding services. Please see our pricing page for these options.

Should I label my quilt?

• Definitely yes! Quilts can become heirlooms that last for generations. Your family will always want to know who made it, when it was made & anything special about it.

We offer embroidered quilt labels in a variety of options. See the quilt label page.

How should I prepare my quilt before bringing it to you?

• Clip your threads.

• Check all seams! Making sure seams are secure is much easier before than trying to fix them afterward.

• Keep your top, backing & batting separate.

• Iron your top & backing if needed..

• Backing must be at least 4 inches larger on each side than your quilt top. For example, if your quilt top measures 60″ x 60″, your backing must be at least 68″ x 68″.

• Add all buttons or embellishments to your quilt after the quilting is complete as they can cause damage during the quilting process.

Can I mail my quilt to you?

  • Yes definitely! Call, text, or email us and let’s talk about your lovely quilt and where to send it. There will be a small return shipping fee of no more than $20. (If it ends up being more we will pay the difference.)
